Ubiquitous Broadband Access Networks with Peer-to-Peer Application Support

چکیده

Many last-mile access technologies exist, including cable, DSL (digital subscriber line), powerline (the world’s largest infrastructure), free-space optics, and broadcast satellite (which is attractive for both urban and rural areas, even isolated areas not serviceable by terrestrial methods). Unfortunately, these technologies represent a significant bottleneck between a highspeed residential network and a largely overbuilt core backbone network. This in turn makes it difficult to support end-to-end quality of service (QoS) for a wide variety of applications, including emerging peer-to-peer (PTP) applications and non-elastic applications such as voice and video, which cannot tolerate variable or excessive delay or data loss. This paper presents an architecture to help realize widespread broadband access connectivity with PTP application support. The importance of combining multihop wireless access with multi-wavelength optical access will be illustrated.

A Novel Caching Strategy in Video-on-Demand (VoD) Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Networks Based on Complex Network Theory

The popularity of video-on-demand (VoD) streaming has grown dramatically over the World Wide Web. Most users in VoD P2P networks have to wait a long time in order to access their requesting videos. Therefore, reducing waiting time to access videos is the main challenge for VoD P2P networks. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for caching video based on peers' priority and video's popula...

COPS-Based Dynamic QoS Support for SIP Applications in DSL Networks

In this paper, several dynamic QoS solutions including Direct DiffServ, Admission-based Direct DiffServ, Indirect DiffServ, and Hybrid DiffServ are proposed to support largely emerging SIP-based P2P(Peer-to-Peer) and ASP(Application Service Provider) multimedia applications in DSL networks, most widely deployed as broadband access networks. The proposed solutions are designed to be based on sta...

Using Peer-to-Peer Ad Hoc Networks for Play and Leisure

The bandwidth of commonly available broadband connections is growing less quickly than the capacity of commonly available storage devices. UK broadband speeds for the home are commonly 512kbps for downloading and 256kbps for uploading, while the Apple iPod can hold 40 GB of data and the home PC often has a 120 GB hard drive. Downloading a 1GB file to a domestic PC may take a day. In contrast, s...

Bandwidth Impacts of Localizing Peer-to-Peer IP Video Traffic in Access and Aggregation Networks

This paper examines the burgeoning impact of peer-to-peer (P2P) traffic IP video traffic. High-quality IPTV or Internet TV has high-bandwidth requirements, and P2P IP video could severely strain broadband networks. A model for the popularity of video titles is given, showing that some titles are very popular and will often be available locally; making localized P2P attractive for video titles. ...
